Corrupt memory card during a photo shoot? Running out of space on your memory card? Lugging around your laptop, charger, and hard drives in order to edit and backup your content? If you’re a professional photographer or videographer, chances are you’ve encountered some of these sticky situations.
I’ve fallen victim to all three of these, and it can be a disheartening and discouraging experience. I wouldn’t wish any of those experiences on my worst enemy.
Luckily, there’s a gadget for us content creators which puts these woes to rest.
The Gnarbox is a rugged and high functioning hard drive that allows you to back up and edit raw photos and videos from literally anywhere! I traveled to the West Coast last year and exclusively used the Gnarbox to back up and edit. I’m not going to lie, it made my life WAY easier!
You can read about all the specs here. Spoiler alert: they are AWESOME!
Now, on to the deep dive of why the Gnarbox is so great and practical.
BACKUP. BACKUP. BACKUP.
Let’s say it a couple more times. Backup. Backup. Backup. This is 101 stuff, folks. Accidents are prone to happen. Hard drives fail. Memory cards become corrupt. It’ll happen to you at some point. Make it a habit to backup religiously.
While the Gnarbox is not immune to accidents, it’s still a great solution to backing up on the go. Say you’re out camping with all your photo and video gear. You don’t really want to be bringing your laptop and hard drive to backup. Sometimes it’s a must, but you should really consider ditching all that gear for the Gnarbox.
First off- it’s shockproof, dustproof AND water resistant. Perfect for camping.
Secondly, you can back up the photos. Let’s say you waited hours to take a photo of a bald eagle. (FYI, they can be spotted in the NJ/PA area) Don’t lose those precious and time-consuming moments because you forgot to backup your card. Play it safe and give yourself a peace of mind by using the Gnarbox to backup your photos.
EDIT ON THE GO
This is huge. The opportunity to edit your content while on the go opens up a whole new world of possibilities. Imagine you’re shooting a wedding and you want to impress the bride and groom with some same day edits. Gnarbox allows you to edit both RAW photos and 4K video anywhere. Edit a couple photos to give to the bride and groom to post on their social media. Piece together some video highlights for a same day edit the bride and groom will never forget! The best part is, clients will be impressed getting content the same day. You can thank the Gnarbox for those extra referrals or big tips.

EXPLORE MORE. CARRY LESS.
This is the best feature in my opinion. No more laptops. No more chargers. No more wires. Just one single hard drive that allows you to produce on the go.
I can’t stress enough how much easier it’s made traveling for me. Going through airport security is already a nightmare. You have to take out all your electronic devices and put them in separate bins. I hate it as much as the next person. The Gnarbox makes it breeze because it’s just one hard drive.
Even hiking or camping becomes more fun because you’re carrying less and worrying less. Hopefully, the Gnarbox would inspire and allow you to explore more because you’re carrying less.
At the end of the day, I know I’m choosing to go with the Gnarbox because of it’s versatility.
- I’m able to backup my content anywhere.
- I’m able to edit RAW photos and 4K video right from my phone
- I’m able to explore more without the weight of a laptop, chargers and multiple hard drives.
I highly encourage you to checkout Gnarbox for yourself. And if we ever meet in person and I have my camera on me, I dare you to best me if I have my Gnarbox with me. You will lose every time.
Update: at the time of writing and publishing this blog post, Gnarbox has released a newer model that is definitely worth checking out.
