Donating To Cystic Fibrosis & Breathtaking Journey


The #NJspots Team is excited to announce our partnership with Breathtaking Journey and the founders of Adventure Heroes, Ryan Benz and Jason Benz. Taking his passion for supporting the debilitating disease, Cystic Fibrosis, Ryan is hitting the entire Appalachian Trail this summer to raise awareness for the cause. To support his courageous efforts, we are donating $5 for every #NJspots Compass Tee sold during his journey.

Ryan's Story

Adventure Heroes

Give this guy a hot cup of coffee and the mountains and he'll be smiling for days. Ryan Benz was born on March 14, 1985 and spent his childhood in Vernon, NJ exploring the northeast wilderness. He graduated from Ramapo College of New Jersey in 2007 and has been working in the advertising industry since. He is the co-founder of Adventure Heroes.

In 2014, Ryan and his brother became the founders of Xtreme Hike for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's Greater New Jersey Chapter. Since then, they have assumed the role as hike leads and chair for the annual event. Through this experience Ryan has formed strong relationships with people living with Cystic Fibrosis as well as people who have loved ones living with CF.

Ryan decided now is the time to fulfill his dream of thru-hiking the full 2,190 miles of the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine, but he didn't just want to do it for himself. While preparing for the trail, he couldn't help but to think about all the things he may encounter that will take his breath away. And then he thought about people living with Cystic Fibrosis and how their breath is being taken away in a more literal, unfortunate sense. This was the motivation behind Breathtaking Journey, a journey where two of Ryan's strongest passions come full circle...nature and giving back.

While the journey will be a life changing experience for Ryan, most importantly the long distance trek will be helping other people with the funds and awareness that is raises. Continue reading...
